What to Wear: The Interview
- For most interviews, a solid color conservative skirt/pant suit is appropriate. Stay in neutral colors (black, gray, navy, brown, beige). Ensure that the clothes stay in place and look appropriate while standing and sitting.
- Wear suitable shoes: no open toe, no chunky heel and nothing you can't walk normally in!
- If you're wearing a skirt: Wear traditional hose and bring an extra pair in case they run. Skirt should be no more than two inches above the knee.
- Pick a hairstyle and jewelry that is neat and adds to your professional image. No perfume!
- Carry a business tote or briefcase.
- Make sure your clothes are the appropriate size and fit. You want to be comfortable in what you are wearing.
Remember: the interviewer should be pleased by what you're wearing, but otherwise not notice it. The emphasis should be on you, not your clothes.
