One doesn't have to look far in Washington, D.C. to find outstanding women leaders and role models; PLEN is fortunate to be part of this incredible community. In 1994 PLEN alumnae created the PLEN Mentor Award to recognize and honor women leaders in Washington who have served as outstanding teachers, role models and mentors for PLEN students.
Each year, Washington, D.C.-based PLEN alumnae select four women leaders to honor for their incredible contributions to PLEN's programs. These women come from every sector imaginable including advocacy organizations, corporations, government agencies and Congress. They all share a strong passion for and dedication to mentoring - to imparting their knowledge, experience and advice to young women while paving the path for the next generation of leaders.
The Mentor Awards Celebration not only serves as an opportunity to publicly thank the women leaders that are central to PLEN's programs, it is also PLEN's annual fundraising event. The money raised through the Mentor Awards Celebration directly supports PLEN's six annual programs, helping to ensure that PLEN can continue to open doors for future generations of women.
2007 Mentor Award Recipient Senator Lisa Murkowski with Barbara Shailor, Vice Chair of PLEN's Board of Directors, and Shannon Doran, PLEN's Executive Director.
